Last year, golfers teed off at BlueCare Golf Day and raised more than $19,000 for the Compassionate Companions program. That's volunteers trained. That's resources in the hands of people who know how to use them. That's someone who hasn't had a visitor in weeks, suddenly having a familiar face come through the door with a cup of tea and a puzzle and all the time in the world.
This year, we're back raising funds for Compassionate Companions Resource Packs. In each pack is something a little like a key. A colouring page that brings calm to a restless mind. A soft sensory item that offers comfort when words no longer come easily. A simple puzzle that can spark a moment of recognition - a smile, a memory, a connection that crosses the distance memory loss can create.
As one golfer shared, “It’s more than a game — it’s about giving someone the gift of connection.”
Thank you to all golfers, sponsors and donors helping drive loneliness off the course, one hole at a time.
