The kind support of those who were able to donate to our recent appeal has made a real difference.
Because of the generosity of supporters like you, Errol can remain at home with his loving partner and primary carer Jane, where he feels the happiest and most comfortable.
When Errol was first diagnosed with vascular dementia it was devastating for them both.
As his dementia symptoms progressed, looking after Errol became a 24/7 responsibility for Jane.
But with the help of dementia specialists, Jane has received the guidance, support and respite she needs to continue caring for Errol with confidence and love.
BlueCare Personal Carers like Helen and Lan visit Errol twice a week, taking him for walks around the lake near his home.
“His mind might be going but physically he’s as fit as ever,” Helen says with a smile.
While Errol is out with his carers, Jane gets the chance to spend precious time doing things she loves like painting in her studio and teaching art classes.
As a lifelong artist, having a creative outlet helps her recharge and cope.
Jane has become close to Helen, Lan and the BlueCare team. Whenever she needs advice, help at home or an empathic ear to listen to her concerns, the team is there for her.
Your generosity helps recruit and train dementia care specialists, provide in-home care and practical support, and offer day and overnight respite care.
It also helps supply the best therapeutic tools and equipment so people like Errol can continue to live well with dementia.
According to Dementia Australia, more than 433,000 people in Australia are living with dementia – over 85,000 in Queensland alone.
With your continued support, we’ll keep delivering compassionate care that allows people to remain in their homes and live life their way.
