Blue Care began with someone who cared. Through a gift in your Will, you will carry our care and values into the future.

In 1953, the first Blue Care nurse, Sister Olive, travelled by tram to care for ageing and vulnerable people in Brisbane’s West End. Within a few years, there were Blue Care nurses all across Queensland, funded by donations and gifts in Wills from generous people like you.

Today, Blue Care is the largest provider of services and care for older Queenslanders. But the need for our compassionate care has never been greater.

Through a gift in your Will to Blue Care, you will carry on Olive’s legacy of helping others. You will allow us to invest in the innovation, technology and training needed to bring the best care to older and vulnerable Queenslanders into the future

Here’s what a gift in your Will – of any size – will do:

  • Fund specialised support for people who need dementia, respite and palliative care.
  • Fund specialised support for people who need dementia, respite and palliative care.
  • Provide technology that keeps older people connected with life and the world.
  • Support the staff training needed for exceptional, personalised care.
  • Help Blue Care expand our community services, so more older and vulnerable Queenslanders can stay in their own homes.
  • Create the most comforting and supportive environment in Blue Care residences.
  • Fund evidence-based therapies that keep older people growing and thriving.

“Blue Care remembers and cares for elderly Queenslanders. I've left a gift in my Will to Blue Care because I’ve seen first-hand how devoted they are to helping people.” - Gwen

Gwen fondly remembers her time as a Blue Care nurse, caring for people with dementia. She said the most important part of her job was to ask people what they wanted. Gwen fondly remembers her time as a Blue Care nurse, caring for people with dementia. She said the most important part of her job was to ask people what they wanted.

“They want to dance, you have a dance with them. You had to cheer somebody else up, and you cheered yourself up.”

After she left nursing, Gwen became a Blue Care volunteer. For decades, she’s been visiting elderly residents to pamper them with luxury hand and nail care. Gwen fondly talks about one 100-year-old lady who loves to have a chat and get her nails done.

Today, Gwen and her beloved husband Ron live in a Blue Care villa too. Gwen grows vegetables and flowers in their garden and looks after a community vegetable garden for other residents.

Gwen says she “loves where they live”. If either of them need more help in the future, they can move into the Aged Care residence in their complex.

Gwen has been helping people through Blue Care for almost 50 years. Now, through a Gift in her Will to Blue Care, her beautiful support for the elderly will live on for many more years to come.

Your common questions answered

Is it hard to update my Will?
No – it’s quick and simple. If you already have a Will, you just need to ask your solicitor to update it to include an extra sentence about your gift. This is our recommended wording:

“I ………………. give  …………………….. to Blue Care (ABN: 96 010 643 909) (or any predecessor or successor of it), to be applied for its general purposes. I declare the receipt of an authorised officer of Blue Care will be sufficient discharge of the bequest to my Executor / Trustee.”

Can I look after my family and still include a gift to Blue Care?
Absolutely. We always recommend you take care of your loved ones first. For this reason, many people choose a ‘residual gift’, which is the remainder of your estate after you’ve provided for your family and other expenses.

I don’t have a lot to leave. Will my gift still make a difference?
Yes! Every gift, big or small, helps Blue Care support older, sick and vulnerable people into the future. Gifts in Wills make it possible for Blue Care to plan ahead and bring exceptional care to the growing number of Queenslanders who need us.

Will some of my gift go on administration costs?
No. Gifts in Wills are applied according to the wishes of the person who left them.
