The first Blue Care Nurse, Sister Olive Smith, started caring for people in their homes in West End, Brisbane in 1953.
Her only transport to assist these people in need was by tram. Sister Olive was so passionate about the care to older people, that she made a life-changing impact on many of our older and vulnerable people who required care and treatment. The news of this wonderful service quickly spread and in a few short years, the Blue Nurses expanded across Queensland, funded by donations and gifts in Wills.

How your gift will help
Gifts in Wills enable Blue Care to provide exceptional care now and into the future. They support older, sick and vulnerable people to live their lives with purpose and dignity and enable people who wish to remain in their own homes to do so.
Gifts in Wills also help people who need a higher level of support such as specialised dementia care, respite or palliative care. Blue Care provides three million care visits to people in need each year.
How to leave a gift in your will
A Will is important to ensure your estate is distributed to the people and organisations you care about the most.
After you have provided for your loved ones, please consider leaving a gift in your Will to Blue Care knowing that you can make a difference to older people when they need it the most.
You may consider leaving a gift in your Will to Blue Care comprising of:
- the whole of your estate;
- a percentage of your estate;
- the residue of your estate; or
- a specific gift.
“I ………………. give …………………….. to Blue Care (ABN: 96 010 643 909) (or any predecessor or successor of it), to be applied for its general purposes. I declare the receipt of an authorised officer of Blue Care will be sufficient discharge of the bequest to my Executor / Trustee.”
Many generous donors leave a gift in their will to Blue Care that is not tied to a specific program, service or geographic location. These types of untied gifts allow us to respond quickly to the most urgent community needs at that time. If you would like to leave a gift to a specific area of one of our programs or locations, please contact our Blue Care Gifts in Wills Manager on 1800 001 953.
