What does your role in BlueCare’s dementia consultancy service involve?
Our Specialised Dementia Services team of nine includes a manager, clinical consultants, advisors and dementia officers. I am one of the clinical consultants, delivering telehealth and face-to-face support, as well as training and education across the state.
Our consultancy centres on people living with dementia and their carers. We listen to their challenges and help people feel equipped to support comfort, dignity and connection throughout the dementia journey.
How do you support families and carers on a day‑to‑day basis?
Alongside our consultancy work, we support BlueCare’s dementia squad – specially trained carers who provide personalised support in the home.
We continue to train and support them so they can deliver the best possible care. We also work closely with BlueCare teams, including allied health professionals, to ensure everyone involved in a person’s care is connected and working together.
What makes BlueCare’s approach to dementia care unique?
BlueCare is proud to have one of the largest teams of specially trained dementia carers in Australia. We are deeply committed to delivering world‑leading care tailored to each person. That means ensuring people receive the right support at the right time, whether it is expert advice, practical strategies or hands‑on daily care that helps them continue living with dignity.
What are your hopes for the future of dementia care?
I hope for greater understanding and empathy for people living with dementia and those who care for them. Earlier support is vital, as many families reach out when they are already overwhelmed.
With dementia rates expected to double in the next 30 years, we need to help people navigate this journey with less fear and more support.
