“BlueCare has made the greatest difference,” Jane shares. “They’ve given me the respite to sit and think about becoming more informed, things that would support me in the role of a carer and given me hope and actual community.”
Your support today helps carers like Jane find hope again.
Jane first noticed signs of dementia in her husband Errol nearly a decade ago, with a formal diagnosis coming five years later. Since then, her life has been a delicate balance of love, loss, and learning.
“What is he like? He’s a gentle man, a gentle gentleman,” she says with a smile.
“The hardest part was the emotional grief, losing someone I used to have good conversations with.”
As Errol’s condition progressed, Jane took on more responsibilities driving, shopping, and managing daily tasks, leaving little time for herself or her artwork, which had always been her creative outlet. But thanks to BlueCare’s dementia carers, Jane found the support she needed to continue caring for Errol with confidence and compassion.
“When BlueCare carers come in, I try to get on a bit with my artwork. It’s my respite,” “They know Errol inside out. He has continuity of care.
“If I’m feeling sad or overwhelmed, the carers are just the sweetest people. It has meant the world to us. I would be totally overwhelmed without them.”
This Giving Day on October 23, BlueCare is celebrating the impact of its dementia care services and the incredible people behind them. Donations will help upskill carers, providing professional training and resources so they can continue delivering tailored, compassionate care.
Julie Smallhorne, BlueCare, Dementia Care Manger, emphasises the importance of ongoing investment.
“It’s so important to continue investing in dementia care. Our personal carers tailor care for each individual. Giving Day is a chance to celebrate that work and the pride we in what we do.”
For Jane and Errol, that support means Errol can stay at home longer, surrounded by love and familiarity and Jane gets the respite she needs to continue being the devoted partner she’s always been.
“For Errol to be cared for like this It has meant the world to us.”
