Dementia hasn't changed who Lesley is

Lesley is a mother, a wife of 63 years, a family matriarch known for caring for others, and someone who has lived a wonderful life. She organised fundraising events, volunteered in her community and raised a family with her husband, Ian.

As her dementia progressed, everyday life became more difficult. Eventually, her family made the difficult decision to move her into a BlueCare Memory Support Unit.

But dementia hasn't changed what matters to Lesley. She still loves spending time in the garden. She still enjoys helping others. And she still lights up during meaningful moments with her family.

Today, specialist dementia support helps Lesley stay connected to the activities, memories and relationships that remain so important to her.

"The BlueCare team don't just care for her, they truly know her as a person."
— Laurel-Lea, Lesley's daughter

Dementia care is more important than ever

More than 250 people are diagnosed with dementia every day in Australia, and that number is expected to grow significantly in the years ahead.

While there is currently no cure, the right support can make a meaningful difference to daily life for people living with dementia and those around them.

With donations from our generous community, BlueCare can continue going above and beyond the basics with specialist care, programs and resources that help people feel safe, connected and valued.

What donations can help fund

Older woman seated at a piano while a BlueCare Carer leans in beside her; the piano lid and strings frame the scene, with soft light and curtains in the background.

Meaningful connection

Memory boxes, life story kits and activities that help people reconnect with cherished memories.

Elderly hands gently pet and brush a small black-and-white therapeutic kitten with a purple collar while it rests on a green cushion.

Comfort and wellbeing

Weighted therapy aids and specialised resources that can reduce distress and provide reassurance.

Dementia consultant and educator, Sherri, is sitting at the outdoor table of an elderl couple, smiling and talking; teacups and saucers are on the table, with soft green foliage in the background and one person in a striped sweater in the foreground.

Specialist training

Training that equips frontline teams with advanced dementia care skills and approaches to support each person to live life their way.

Sensory spaces

Creating calming sensory spaces that reduce anxiety and distress. Because where someone spends their days shapes how those days feel.

Thanks to our generous partners your support can go twice as far on Giving Day
