Giving Day

What and when is BlueCare Giving Day?
expand_more expand_less

Giving Day is a 12-hour online fundraising challenge, from 8am to 8pm, where we call on our Queensland community to support BlueCare’s dementia support services in our own backyard. This year's Giving Day will take place on Thursday, 23 October 2025.

Where does my donation go?
expand_more expand_less

Your donation to BlueCare's Giving Day will be used to support dementia support and care across Queensland.

Your gift could fund therapeutic tools and spaces, innovative technology and programs, and specialised dementia education and training for BlueCare teams that go beyond what service fees provide.

If there is another specific area or service close to your heart that you'd like to donate to, please give our Fundraising team a call on 1800 001 953.

What is matched giving? How does my donation make double the difference?
expand_more expand_less

Donations are being matched by generous donors and partners of BlueCare until the end of Giving Day, or until the funds they've dedicated are exhausted, whichever is sooner.

This means that if a partner has chosen to match up to $20,000 on Giving Day, donations made by people like you will be matched dollar for dollar until the $20,000 has been exhausted, or Giving Day has ended.

So, if for example, you make a gift of $100 on Giving Day and matching is available, BlueCare will receive an additional $100, doubling your support.

Will my donation or fundraising be matched if I give before Giving Day?
expand_more expand_less

Thank you for your incredible generosity and commitment to making a difference!

To have your donation doubled by our generous matching partners, please give or add the funds you've raised to your page between 8:00am and 8:00pm (AEST) on Giving Day – 23 October 2025. Matching is only available during this 12-hour window and will continue until all matching funds are exhausted.

Donations made before this timeframe – including those raised by individuals or teams – are not eligible for matching. This helps us focus the limited matching funds from generous partners on encouraging everyone to come together on the same day to make the biggest impact possible.

To double your impact, we strongly encourage you to donate and fundraise on Giving Day while matching funds are available to take your support even further!

Here at UnitingCare Queensland (although you may only know us as BlueCare), we know how much you value your privacy while looking for ways to support your community. We want you to know that we give the same level of importance to protecting the personal information that you provide to us when donating, fundraising, volunteering and using our services and websites.

We know that reading a privacy policy isn’t the most thrilling or inspiring thing to do, but it is a very important document, which you can read over on our Privacy Policy page.

We love being able to communicate with you about the different ways you can support your community but if you change your mind and no longer wish to receive communications from us, you can:

  • Follow the opt-out (sometimes also known as “manage subscription” or “unsubscribe”) instruction in the emails we send you.
  • If you have opted into receiving text messages from us and wish to opt out, you can follow the opt-out instruction in that specific text message if you wish to opt-out.
  • To update your communication preferences for all things donating and fundraising you can contact our Fundraising Team at fundraising@bluecare.org.au or by calling 1800 001 953.
Why and how does BlueCare fundraise?
expand_more expand_less

BlueCare raises funds in a range of ways that allow us to reach the greatest number of people, including individuals, families, organisations and local communities who want to help the people we care for remain as active as possible, living with independence and freedom into the future. We appreciate the money, time and heart anyone can give to help us support older Queenslanders.

We receive funds from:

  • Compassionate people who choose to give. Whether it's a one-off donation when they can, including a gift in their Will, or Friends of BlueCare who give monthly.
  • Blue-hearted fundraisers inspiring others to donate at events, their local Bunnings or online.
  • Corporate partners
  • State and federal government
  • Trusts, foundations and grants

We fundraise:

  • Online (through emails, social media and our websites)
  • Over the phone
  • By sending mail
  • At events

If you’re ever unsure if a fundraiser is legitimate, give our Fundraising Team a call on 1800 001 953 or email us at fundraising@bluecare.org.au.

Does BlueCare use telephone fundraising?
expand_more expand_less

Yes, we do use telephone fundraising. This type of fundraising allows us to raise money in a cost-effective way, as well as engage in thousands of conversations with BlueCare supporters.

This form of fundraising gives more people the opportunity to ask questions about our work and discuss the different ways in which they can support BlueCare’s services here in Queensland.

We work with a professional, ethical tele-fundraising agency called Clever Contacts. These compassionate fundraisers will be helping us reach more people on Giving Day, 23 October 2025.

Our professional tele-fundraisers are paid to fundraise on our behalf. However, 100% of all donations given in support of BlueCare on Giving Day will be put towards dementia support services. Our fundraising costs are covered by UnitingCare services in Queensland that have fees associated with them, and investments like any other business.

Our fundraisers and our partners at Clever Contacts are required to follow rules set out by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and are members of the Fundraising Institute of Australia. We want to make sure you feel informed and empowered with the way you choose to give and never feel pressured to give if you are unable to. We want everyone’s experience with BlueCare to be the best possible experience while we raise funds for access to care that’s right for you or your loved ones.

Together, we ensure that:

  • All fundraisers have intensive training and receive regular briefing sessions to ensure that they are working to best practice and to the charity’s guidelines set out by the ACNC and FIA.
  • We regularly monitor and review all tele-fundraising calls to ensure we’re respecting and understanding the people we talk to.
  • Any agency we work with complies with the Australian Privacy Principles, as well other relevant State legislation, when dealing with your personal information.

Our team and Clever Contacts will only call you if you’ve given us consent to do so. We do not take part in ‘cold’ calling.

If you no longer wish to receive calls from us, are unsure whether a call you’ve received is legitimate, or if you’re unhappy with any aspect of a call that you have received, please contact our Fundraising Team on 1800 001 953 or at fundraising@bluecare.org.au.

How do I check if any type of fundraising request I've received from BlueCare is a scam?
expand_more expand_less

While we would love to see all technology used to make the world a better place, some people use technology to mirror charities – but who don’t have the charities important cause at heart. BlueCare is a registered Australian charity as part of UnitingCare QLD Limited and we follow all fundraising and government legislation.

Our mail and email fundraising will always have the BlueCare brand on it, communicate with you from an official BlueCare or UnitingCare Queensland email address such as fundraising@bluecare.org.au or plannedgiving@unitingcareqld.com.au, and direct you to our websites – bluecare.org.au, bluecaregivingday.org.au, fundraise.bluecare.org.au – or one of its landing pages for more information or to donate.

If someone is raising funds on BlueCare's behalf, their online donation page should start with fundraise.bluecare.org.au and/or they should have a Letter of Authority to fundraise on our behalf.

If you see, read or hear something that you think isn’t quite right and want to check it with us – we’d definitely like to know too – reach out to our Fundraising Team on 1800 001 953 or fundraising@bluecare.org.au.
